Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to use my Serger with the knife raised, so as not to cut the fabric? How do I raise the knife?
Instructions and illustrations for raising the knife can be found in the Instruction Manual packaged with your serger. Be sure to rotate the knife back as far as it will go. You should feel and hear it click into place.
If you choose to serge with the knife raised, you must be serging on the edge of the fabric, or over cord or fishline. If you are using your serger to seam, the knife must be down to cut off the excess seam, otherwise the fabric will "collect" and bend and break your loopers.
If you want to duplicate ready-to-wear's serger Cover Stitching, visit with the serger consultant at your BERNINA® store and ask to see the line of BERNINA® sergers with Cover Stitch and Chain Stitch capabilities.
You will find information about techniques and optional feet in the Serger Technique Reference Book, available from your BERNINA® store.
