Frequently Asked Questions
How do I embroider on terry cloth towels so that my stitches are not lost in the loops of the fabric?
Assuming the towel is heavy and thick, it would be difficult to hoop. You will need to "stick" the towel to the stabilizer to embroider.
Hoop a tear-away stabilizer tautly. Spray the stabilizer with 101 Quilt Basting Spray or 505 Temporary Spray Adhesive. Align the towel, right side up, on the hooped stabilizer. Place a water-soluble stabilizer such as Aqua Film Topping on top of the towel; using a small amount of 101 Quilt Basting Spray or 505 Temporary Spray Adhesive to keep the Aqua Film Topping in place over the area that is to be embroidered.
When finished with the embroidery, pull away excess the Aqua Film Topping. If this is for a gift, spray with water and pat dry with a towel to dissolve and remove remaining Aqua Film Topping. Tear away the stabilizer from the wrong side of the tower, remembering to tear away from the stitches not pull up to remove the stabilizer.
Any napped fabric, including polar fleece is best embroidered with a layer of Aqua Film Topping between the design threads and the fabric to prevent fabric nap from burying the stitches.
