Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "pig tail" bobbin case, why do I need it and where do I get it?
The Embroidery Bobbin Case is often called a "pig-tail" bobbin case or a gold latch bobbin case because it has a spring thread guide and a gold colored latch. It is used for embroidery on the BERNINA® rotary hook machines (artista 180, 185, 200, and 730) to increase tension on the bobbin thread without reducing tension to the needle (upper) thread.
It works much like the bobbin case finger on the CB model machines and is generally used for embroidery. With embroidering, it is important to have slightly more tension on the bobbin thread so that you get a smooth, satin look to your stitched design without any bobbin thread exposure.
Additional information about the Embroidery Bobbin Case can be found in Feet-ures, Volume 1 a comprehensive full-color reference guide to all BERNINA® presser feet, attachments and accessories. There are three (3) Feet-ures volumes available at your local BERNINA® store.
If you purchase an Embroidery Bobbin Case be sure to purchase an authentic BERNINA® case from an Authorized BERNINA® Dealer.
