Frequently Asked Questions
When doing decorative stitching or a Satin Stitch, where do I set my upper tension to insure that bobbin thread does not show on top?
Normally you will set your upper tension at least 2 numbers lower than you set it for normal sewing.
On older BERNINA® sewing machines upper tension was set at 4 so you would reduce this setting down to 2 for decorative and satin stitching. You could also feed the bobbin thread through the hole in the bobbin finger to further offset the thread tensions.
Current BERNINA® sewing and embroidery machines have the upper thread tension preset to 5 for normal sewing. Reduce this setting to between 2 ½ and 3. For CB hook machines, feed the thread to the bobbin finger to further offset the tensions. For rotary hook machines thread the bobbin thread through the Embroidery Bobbin Case (gold latch) to further offset the thread tensions.
